About AFP & TRALALERE

AFP: A global leader in news and journalism

Agence France-Presse (AFP) is one of the world’s three largest news agencies, and uniquely, it is the only one headquartered in Europe. With a network spanning 150 countries, AFP provides a truly global perspective on the events that shape our world. The agency employs over 2,600 people worldwide, including 1,700 journalists from more than 100 nationalities.

AFP offers comprehensive news coverage in six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese. It prides itself on delivering news from remote and often underreported locations, giving it an edge in global coverage. While AFP is well known for its broad news reporting, it has increasingly focused on two key editorial priorities: the future of the planet and the impact of digital technology on daily life.

Moreover, AFP is a global leader in digital investigations, with a dedicated team of 150 journalists working across 26 languages to uncover the truth in an age of information overload. AFP’s commitment to independence is rooted in its unique legal status, as established by a French law passed in 1957. This ensures that AFP operates free from shareholder influence, guaranteeing complete editorial autonomy.

TRALALERE: Empowering education through digital innovation

Founded in 2000, TRALALERE is a prominent French EdTech SME that specialises in creating innovative digital tools for education. The company is a recognized leader in pedagogical design, media, and technology, and its mission is to use the power of digital resources to enhance learning and critical thinking skills in students.

In 2019, TRALALERE received the ESUS (Entreprise Solidaire d’Utilité Sociale) accreditation, a designation awarded by the French government to companies with a proven social impact. One of TRALALERE’s key initiatives is its role as the coordinator of Safer Internet France, the national component of the European Better Internet for Kids program. This vital program works to ensure the safe and responsible use of digital technologies by young people, promoting a safer online environment for children, parents, educators, and institutions.

Through its Internet Sans Crainte program, TRALALERE provides essential resources on digital literacy, cyberbullying prevention, media literacy, and online safety. This initiative includes educational workshops, training sessions, and the development of guides and multimedia tools designed to help families and educators navigate the digital landscape.

In addition, TRALALERE actively promotes digital culture and coding skills as an official Code Week Ambassador. Its initiatives, like Citizen Code, and its new project Wonder Sciences, which highlights STEM careers, encourage young people to pursue an interest in science and technology.

What is their role in the DS4Skills project?

AFP and TRALALERE joined the ds4skills project to co-orchestrate the use case When Media Data Meets Education – Empowering Media Literacy. The objective of this use case is to develop AI-driven tools and multimedia experiences that empower users to critically analyze information based on trusted sources.

The goal is to connect this use case to the Trusted European Media Dataspace (TEMS), ensuring that media literacy education is based on up-to-date, verified news from reliable sources. Through this collaboration, AFP’s trusted journalism and TRALALERE’s educational expertise come together to promote critical thinking, ethical data sharing, and AI-supported personalization in educational settings.
