5.0 PTX Protocol & Data Exchange

How does the exchange work? The PDC [2.1] handles the authorization and data transfer. The process is divided into two parts: Control Plane [5.1] (authorizations) and Data Plane [5.1] (data transfer, currently flowing through the Connector [2.1] to allow Service Chains).

Data exchange within the marketplace ecosystem is based on the PTX Protocol. It defines a theorical, functional and operative framework that enables a secure, sovereign and interoperable data exchange between participants is the data space. The PTX Protocol is implemented through a set of documented requirements, which you can visualize here.

The key component that materializes this technical and governance capability is the PDC [2.1]. It operates as a controlled entrance door between the organization’s internal systems and the data space, ensuring that all the data flows are produced only after passing an authorization process according to the Protocol rules. This component offers specific tasks to manage data, communication and access policies with other infrastructure services from the data space, such as the catalog, contracts, and consent management.

The PDC also enables the orchestration of service chains, enabling the coordinated execution of multiple services and according to the preestablished rules in accordance with the contractual specifications and governance defined by the PTX Protocol. To learn more, click here and here.

Before initiating, the PTX Protocol establishes a set of mandatory prerequisites that have to be verified: resource availability, existence of a valid contract, usage policies compliance and, lastly, consent validity, (when applicable). The PTX coordinates these verifications and only enables the exchange when all conditions are satisfied, acting as the common control point for all the interactions.
