1.4 Architecture Standards

Prometheus-X is a fusion of principles from Gaia-X, IDSA, and DSSC. It supports standards like ODRL (for contract policies [4.2]), DCAT V3 (for catalog metadata), and aligns with the IDS Dataspace Protocol for data transfer.

DS4Skills is defined as an European Skills Data Space based in a federated architecture that follows the principles and guidelines by the Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC). Its objective is guaranteeing technical and semantic interoperability, data sovereignty and trust among participants of the ecosystem.

DS4Skills’ architecture adopts a modular approach and is based on open-source standards, enabling the integration of multiple data providers and consumers of skills, education, training and employment and facilitating its interoperability at an European level. Within this context, DS4Skills aligns with the reference models and requirements defined by the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) and with the European vision of sectorial and interoperable dataspaces, it fosters common mechanisms for the discovery of resources, agreement negotiation and secure data transfer. To cover the complete data exchange cycle within the Skills Data Space, it adopts and recommends the use of widely accepted standards, including the following:

  • DCAT v3, used for the description of interoperable data catalogs and skills-related services, professional profiles and training opportunities, facilitating their discovery, association and utilization between the distinct nodes of the dataspace.
  • ODRL (Open Digital Rights Language) [4.2] used to express usage rules, consent and contractual conditions associated to data, ensuring that providers maintain full control over who their data is transfer and reused.
  • Dataspace Protocol (DSP) defines the communication flows for catalog release, contract negotiation and data transfer among participants of the data space, maintaining compatibility with the existing implementations and allowing specific extensions for the skills use cases.

Through the alignment with the standards supported by the DSSC and IDSA, DS4Skills avoids relying on property solutions and ensures its interoperability with other sectorial and transversal dataspaces, allowing the reutilization of common components such as identity management, policy applications, traceability and regulatory compliance. Overall, this skills-based architecture allows DS4Skills to work as a scalable, open and trusted ecosystem, being able to endure real use cases such as educational and professional mobility, long-life learning and the alignment between educational offerings and labor market demands, preserving data sovereignty and trust among key actors of the ecosystem.
